ATHLETICS: Carter, Williams-Mills secure victories at Stockholm Diamond League meeting

The Jamaican pair of Nesta Carter and Novlene Williams-Mills secured victories at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting in Sweden today.



Carter secured the first Jamaican victory by winning the men’s 100 metres in a season-best 9.96 seconds.



Trinidadian Keston Bledman finished second in 10.09.



Chijindu Utah of Great Britain got the better of Jamaican Nickel Ashmeade for third place.



Both athletes clocked 10.10 seconds.



Williams-Mills, the Diamond League leader, held on to beat American Sanya Richards-Ross in the women’s 400 metres.



Williams-Mills won in 50.09, while Richards-Ross clocked 50.27.



The 2014 Commonwealth champion Stephenie-Ann McPherson finished fourth in 51.01.



Earlier, Jamaica's 2014 Commonwealth Games champion O'Dayne Richards secured third place in the men's shot put.



Richards registered 20.46 metres to finish behind American Reese Hoofa, 20.71, and New Zealand's Tom Walsh, 20.50.
