ATHLETICS: McPherson, Williams-Mills showdown in Stockholm

Jamaica's 2014 Commonwealth Games champion O'Dayne Richards secured third place in the men's shot put at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting now on in Sweden.



Richards registered 20.46 metres to finish behind American Reese Hoofa, 20.71 metres and New Zealand's Tom Walsh, 20.50.



Meanwhile, Commonwealth Games champion Stephenie-Ann McPherson and Novlene Williams-Mills is set for another showdown when both meet in the women’s 400 metres.



The duo, who led a Jamaican medal sweep at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, number among seven Jamaicans who will be competing in the Swedish capital.



The Jamaican pair will face crack Americans Francena McCorory and Sanya Richards-Ross.



Williams-Mills enters the race as the Diamond League leader with an eight-point lead with four races to go.



The race is set to start at 2:35 p.m. Jamaica time.



The other Jamaicans down to compete are Nesta Carter and Nickel Ashmeade in the men’s 100-metre, Roxroy Cato in the men’s 400-metre hurdles and Shillonie Calvert in the women’s 200 metres.
