ATHLETICS: Powell, VCB among 10 Jamaicans to compete in Zurich on Thursday
Former world 100-metre record holder Asafa Powell and Veronica Campbell-Brown are among 10 Jamaicans who are on the provisional entry lists for the Zurich Diamond League meeting in Switzerland on Thursday.
Powell, who clocked 9.87 seconds in Texas on Saturday night, will come face-to-face with American Tyson Gay over 100 metres.
It will be the first clash between the two athletes since they served suspensions for testing positive last year.
The race also includes Powell’s Jamaican teammates Nesta Carter and 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Kemar Bailey-Cole.
Campbell-Brown along with her Jamaican teammate Kerron Stewart will face Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare over 100 metres.
This represents the first time that the three athletes will clash since the women’s 100-metre final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland earlier this month.
Okagbare dominated the field, winning the gold medal in a Games record time of 10.85 seconds ahead of Campbell-Brown, who clocked 11.03.
Stewart finished third in 11.07 seconds.
The other Jamaicans listed to compete are O’Dayne Richards in the men’s shot put, Jason Livermore in the men’s 100-metre B race, Roxroy Cato in the men’s 400-metre hurdles and Nickel Ashmeade and Rasheed Dwyer in the men’s 200 metres.
