Princess Popstar for Massy Oaks in T&T
Jamaica-bred PRINCESS POPSTAR will make her Trinidad and Tobago debut on the Massy Independence Day race-card at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, next Monday.
The race will be the three-year-old filly's warm-up for the Trinidad Derby, which is set for Republic Day, September 24.
PRINCESS POPSTAR, owned by 2 Penyu, will come out of Gate Four in the five-runner Massy Oaks Stakes, a Grade One event over 1800 metres (main track) which carries a purse of $200,000.
The Jamaican filly will be partnered by Wilmer Galviz and she will come up against the Glenn Mendez-trained GLORIOUS COUNTRY, as well as another John O'Brien trainee, MARKET RALLY. RAEVEN RENAE, another Jamaica-bred horse, with Shane Ellis riding for trainer Anthony Nunes, will also compete in the event.
"She has come for the Derby and this Oaks will be a preparation for her," trainer John O'Brien told the Trinidad Express at the official launch of the race day.
The joint-feature race on the Independence holiday card is the Bernard Dulal-Whiteway Independence Cup, over 1,800 metres on the turf.
