Jamaica's Horse of the Year, PRINCESS POPSTAR, romped the TT$200,000 (J$3.5 million) Massy Oaks, on Monday's Independence Day holiday card at Santa Rosa Park, Arima in Trinidad.

Ridden by Wilmer Galviz for trainer John O'Brien, PRINCESS POPSTAR scored by 6 3/4 lengths from RAEVEN RENAE, GLORIOUS COUNTRY and MARKET RALLY, in that order and covered the 1800-metre trip in a decent 1:54.4.

PRINCESS POPSTAR was sent off at the prohibitive odds of 1-5 for the first two-turn event of her career. Her main rival was the Jamaica Oaks winner RAEVEN RENAE which is owned by Merlin Samlalsingh. She was sent off at odds of 7-2.

PRINCESS POPSTAR was sent straight into the lead by Galviz. They were challenged by SOCA RHAPSODY with GLORIOUS MUSIC and MARKET RALLY in touch, along with RAEVEN RENAE. PRINCESS POPSTAR kept up the steady gallop four furlongs out

As the horses entered the straight, PRINCESS POPSTAR opened up a six-length gap in effortless fashion. Galviz had the liberty of looking around for non-existent danger and won easing down, from RAEVEN RENAE and jockey Shane Ellis, who got up for second.

Winning jockey Galviz, when asked about the race, said: "It was a very easy win, she ended up with a lot in hand, and I never touched her with the whip."

O'Brien, when quizzed about the filly's chances in the Trinidad Derby on September 24, following her stroll, said: "It is going to be a hell of a race with some good horses in the race. It is going to be a lovely Derby."

By Adore The Gold out of Docs' Paladin, PRINCESS POPSTAR is now unbeaten in seven starts.
