Jamaican sprinting star Veronica Campbell-Brown and Kenyan-American middle and long distance standout Bernard Lagat have been named as captains of the Americas team here at the 2014 IAAF Continental Cup.
The two-day Inter-Continental championships, which will see athletes competing against each other in a team format based on their region - Africa, Americas, Asia - Pacific and Europe, is set to get started inside the 41,000 capacity Grande Stade de Marrakech, in Marrakech, Morocco this Saturday.
Campbell-Brown is one of 11 Jamaicans here as part of the Americas team, and will have Trinidad and Tobago's Michelle-Lee Ahye as her team-mate in the 100m.
The Jamaican is also set to feature in the 4x100m relay.
The seven-time Olympic and nine-time World Championships medallist had a positive 2014 season, capped by a Diamond Race title in the 100m and a 10.86 seconds season's best - the third fastest time recorded this season.
Campbell-Brown also won silver in the 100m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow a few weeks ago.
Lagat is the only defending champion on the Americas team, having won both the 3000m and 5000m at the inaugural staging of the Continental Cup in its current name and format four year's ago.
The Kenyan-born American athlete won a silver medal at the IAAF World Indoor Championships earlier this year.
He is a triple World Championships and double Olympic medallist.
