Denham Town, Innswood clash for 'Super' Cup spot
Marc Stamp, Gleaner Writer
Denham Town High and Innswood High will meet in a crucial Group C match in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/LIME Manning Cup football competition at Chedwin Park today. Kick-off time is 3:30 p.m.
The Denham Town team leads the group on 21 points from nine games, while Innswood are three points behind on 18 from nine matches. With today's game completing the preliminary-round games, Denham Town, who are unbeaten, need to avoid defeat in order to qualify for the Manning Cup's next stage, as well as the inaugural LIME/Super Cup and the Walker Cup knock-out.
On the other hand, Innswood must win by at least three clear goals to edge Denham Town on goal difference to get the top spot. Denham Town enjoy a plus-eight goal difference, while Innswood have a plus five.
That means Innswood would have to approach the game in an attacking mode, while ensuring that their defensive system plays well.
In the first meeting, on September 19, Denham Town clipped Innswood 1-0 at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.
Denham Town, under the guidance of coach Earl Bennett, have won six games and drawn three in an unbeaten run.
They will look to pick up at least one point, with players such as Shevon Richards, Tarrique Campbell, Tajay Cunningham, Kenroy Barcham, and Dasuan Black leading their charge.
On the other hand, the Chris Russell-coached Innswood will look for a big win with players such as Brian Smikle, Shawn Beckford, Dujaugn Powell, Jamario Graham, and Stephen Henry.
