Brown scores, but Rapids get heavy beating from Sounders
COMMERCE CITY, Colorado (AP): Nigeria forward Obafemi Martins scored a goal in each half as the Seattle Sounders cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer on Sunday.
Clint Dempsey and Marco Pappa also scored for the Sounders, who surpassed the club record for wins in a season set in 2010 and equalled the LA Galaxy for the top spot in MLS for the third week in a row. The Rapids also set a club record, extending their winless streak to 11 games.
Dempsey opened the scoring with a penalty in the 11th minute. Martins scored in the 28th and Pappa in the 33rd, extending Seattle's lead to 3-0. Deshorn Brown scored the Rapids' lone goal in the 43rd minute and Martins added his second goal in the 70th to cap the scoring.
Former Ecuador forward Felix Borja scored from a rebound in the 47th minute as Chivas USA beat Real Salt Lake to 1-0 to end a 12-game winless streak. Chivas USA also ended a seven-game losing streak.
Chicago dropped from playoff contention after adding an 18th draw to their MLS season record, finishing 0-0 against the Montreal Impact.
The Fire forced Montreal's Evan Bush to make eight saves. Sean Johnson had two for Chicago.
