No excuse - Richards
Japan (CMC): Striker Dane Richards says no excuse should be made for Jamaica's one-nil defeat to Japan in their friendly football international here in Niigata on Friday.
Jamaica suffered defeat on account of an own goal from Nyron Nosworthy, adding another mark in the losing column.
Jetlag, exhaustion and a lone one-hour training session have been linked to their loss as Jamaica continue their preparations for next month's Caribbean Football Union Cup.
"I wouldn't use that as an excuse because everybody had to travel here, so I wouldn't use that," said Richards.
one training session
"We knew from day one Japan was going to be far. We had to come here, get some rest and go play the game; and that's what we did, but unfortunately, we lost."
While the Jamaicans had one training session after arriving last Wednesday, the Japanese gathered in Niigata from Monday for full training sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The game is expected to be the last friendly international for the Reggae Boyz before hosting the Caribbean Cup in Montego Bay from November 10-17.
"Yeah, we wanted a good result, as it has been a while since we had a good result," said Richards, 30, who now plies his trade at Norwegian First Division club Bodo/Glimt.
"But I know it was always going to be tough, as we practiced for only 60 minutes, some guys reached here late; we came together late. Some guys are new, and we don't know each other. But we all knew it was going to be a challenge, so we just went out there and gave our best."
Jamaica's loss to Japan was their eighth under German coach Winfried Schäfer, who has only won two games from his 14 matches in charge.
