Clive 'Busy' Campbell, chief organiser of Masters and Celebrities Inc, is encouraging football lovers to come out and support the 27th staging of the Bell/Ziadie Memorial Fun Day football matches at Winchester Park, St George's College, today.
The matches will see four teams participating - Masters and Celebrities/Entertainers, St George's College Old Boys Invitational, Jamaica cricket team, and Sponsors/Media. The teams will play in a round-robin format, and the team with most points declared the winner. Each game will play for 30 minutes.
"It's all in memory of the late Winthorpe 'Jackie' Bell and Dennis Ziadie. No trophy will be presented as it's all about fun. Proceeds will be in aid of basic schools in the eastern St Andrew communities," said Campbell, who started the event after close friends Bell and Ziadie died in an accident during the FIFA World Cup in 1986 in Mexico.
The organisers are asking each adult to pay $500, while each child under 12 pays $100.
Among the players set to participate are former Reggae Boyz Walter 'Blacka' Boyd, Ricardo 'Bibi' Gardner, Shavar Thomas, Gregory Messam Sr, as well as Ian Wilkinson, Audley Boyd, Eldorado Mullings, Neo Oxford, Andrew 'Bower' Hines, Jermaine Gonzales, Rudolph Speid, Lincoln Taffe, Alicia 'One Left' James, Denton Shedden, Nick Ziadie, André Virtue, Omar Thomas, 'Aidonia', 'Nesbeth', Paul Palmer, Courtney Walsh, Odean Brown, 'Lukie D', 'Tony Curtis, and others.
The sponsors of the Bell/Ziadie Memorial Day one-day competition include Digicel, Print 24/7, Cuddy's Sports Bar and Restaurant, Power 106, KLAS FM, Burger King, Puma, Sports Max, RJR Communications Group, and Best Dressed Chicken.
