WESTERN BUREAU:

Anthony Knuckle's hat-trick lifted Salt Marsh United to a 4-1 thrashing of Rio Bueno in the opening round of football matches in the Trelawny FA President's Cup Knockout on Tuesday.

Salt Marsh, who are also the reigning Trelawny Major League champions, were in the mood for goals, with Knuckle in particular proving a constant danger.

The other scheduled match between Upsetters FC and Spicy Hill SC was rescheduled to tomorrow at Carey Park Sports Ground.

Rio Bueno grabbed the lead in the 35th minute, when Garfield Wright scored. The equaliser came from Knuckle in the 37th minute.

Salt Marsh took the lead after the half-time break, as striker Nichoy Edwards got in on the act, netting his team's go-ahead goal in the 58th. Knuckle squeezed home his team's third in the 67th and duly completed his hat-trick two minutes later with a clinical strike in the 69th.

The competition continues this afternoon with two matches. At Kinloss Sports Ground, Jackson Town will battle Kinloss, while at Elleston Wakeland Centre, Baca Star United host Prospect Links SC. Both matches begin at 3 p.m.
