Rojo has dislocated shoulder

MANCHESTER, England (AP): Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says defender Marcos Rojo dislocated his left shoulder in the 1-0 loss to fierce rivals Manchester City in the Premier League.

The Argentina international was carried off on a stretcher in the 55th minute at Etihad Stadium after being hurt in a challenge with City defender Martin Demichelis.

Van Gaal says "the shoulder is out, so you never know how long that takes."

Van Gaal says Rojo will definitely not play against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Rojo's absence leaves United with a defensive crisis at centre back, with Jonny Evans and Phil Jones also injured and Chris Smalling suspended against Palace after getting sent off against City.

Obama congratulates Giants from Air Force One

DETROIT (AP): The San Francisco Giants got a congratulatory call from Air Force One for their World Series victory.

President Barack Obama placed the call Saturday to Giants Manager Bruce Bochy on a flight from Washington to Detroit for a midterm campaign rally.

Obama spokeswoman Jennifer Friedman says the president told Bochy he looks forward to welcoming the team to the White House for a championship visit. And she says Obama sent congratulations to Madison Bumgarner on being named World Series MVP.

Bumgarner pitched five shutout innings in relief to lead the Giants to a 3-2 win in Game 7 at Kansas City on Wednesday night.
