Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) selection panel member, Wayne Lewis, believes that the squad chosen for the Jamaica franchise's opening fixture of the West Indies Four-Day Tournament is a balanced one.

The 13-man contingent, named on Thursday following the playing of the team's fifth and final trial match at Kensington Park, sees the omission of two senior players and the inclusion of two new faces.

The omitted players are leg-spinner Odean Brown and batsman Danza Hyatt, while those who will be eyeing their first regional four-day cap are fast bowlers Marquino Mindley and Keno Wallace.

"It's a very balanced and exciting squad, which has the potential to represent us well in the first game," said Lewis, one of five members on the panel.

"There are experienced players in our batting and bowling, who together with the young players should be able to put up good totals, as well as defend it," added Lewis.

The other selectors are chairman Wavell Hinds, Delroy Morgan, Cleveland Davidson and Robert Haynes, who recently replaced new West Indies selector, Courtney Walsh.

Lewis, a former Jamaica batsman, also gave his views on the axing of 32-year-old Brown, as well as the decision to overlook the 31-year-old Hyatt.

"All players cannot be selected, but having said that, the squad reflects largely those who have done well in the trial matches.

"The season, however, is a long one, with teams now playing home and away matches, and once players are fit and available they can be considered for selection."
