DEFENDING senior urban Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association netball champions, the Queen's School, will face their biggest test today when they face pre-season favourites St Catherine High in a second round Group Two encounter at the Leila Robinson Courts. Match time is 2:15 p.m.
Both teams are joint leaders of the group with six points, but after dominating for the past two years, the unbeaten run of the defending champions could come to an end today. St Catherine, who are also unbeaten, have been more impressive than their opponents, and the Phyllis Thompson-coached team are favourites to win today.
Despite losing most of their senior players this year, the Marvette Anderson-coached Queen's have remained competitive and survived a scare from a good Camperdown team in their opening match two weeks ago.
Group One leaders Holy Childhood, on seven points from three matches, will be hoping to continue their winning ways against Tarrant High who are on three points. Holy Childhood High gained three valuable points from their encounter with Gaynstead on Wednesday as they were leading late in the game when the rain forced an abandonment, so they were awarded the match.
The unbeaten St Hugh's High (six points from three matches) are favourites to win the group and the beaten finalists a year ago should pick up three more points when they meet Convent of Mercy (Alpha) at 3:15 p.m.
Defending junior champions Queen's, following their impressive 56-3 win on Wednesday, will meet the unbeaten Meadowbrook at 1:30 p.m. in a top-of-the-table Group Two encounter. Both teams have already booked their semi-final spots with the winners of the match set to top the group with only one game to go in the round.
There will also be an important clash in Group One between leaders Norman Manley and Gaynstead who are both unbeaten and are on nine points each.
