It was billed as their sternest test of the season but victory last Friday turned out to be quite easy for defending senior Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association urban netball champions The Queen's School.
Led by Simone Gordon with 37 goals, they whipped the previously unbeaten St Catherine High 42-13 in their top-of-the-table second-round Group Two clash at St Andrew High netball court. The winners now lead the group with maximum nine points from three wins.
Heavy afternoon showers last Friday forced the organisers to switch games from the Leila Robinson Courts to three other venues because of the slippery surface.
It was a very confident St Catherine High team that came into the encounter and they were the first to settle down as they raced to a quick 3-0 lead. After looking a bit shaky, The Queen's team settled, especially shooter Gordon who was finding her range well as the first quarter ended 8-8.
Queen's went on to dominate the second quarter and led 23-16 at half-time.
St Catherine's coach Phyllis Thompson made some adjustments for the third quarter but Queen's extended their lead and led 32-23 going in to the final quarter.
St Catherine could do nothing to stop Gordon who was putting on a show inside the circle as she was just brilliant as her team went on to score an emphatic win.
Coach Marvette Anderson was happy with the outcome but did not expect the easy win.
"I am a bit surprised with the margin of victory as I thought St Catherine High would have come out fighting as they are a good team," said Anderson.
Losing coach Thompson blamed "simple mistakes" by her players for the defeat.
