Chelsea continue to maintain their unbeaten start to the Barclays Premier League season after beating West Bromwich Albion 2-0 last weekend. That was the Blues’ 12th game without defeat and their 10th victory, and on Tuesday night, their good run continued with a hugely impressive 5-0 win in Germany against Schalke in the Champions League.

That victory, against a team led by Roberto Di Matteo – the former Chelsea boss who led the Blues to Champions League success – confirmed their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

That victory, Chelsea’s 19th of the season in all competitions without loss, will put them in good stead for the task of extending their unbeaten run at the Stadium of Light, where Sunderland have won one, lost won and drawn four of six home games.

Chelsea will face another familiar face in Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet, who made more than 100 appearances for the Blues.

While José Mourinho has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2014-15 campaign, Poyet has suffered with just two wins all season and only one victory in their last five outings.
