ARSENAL 4

NEWCASTLE UNITED 1

GOALS:- ARSENAL: GIROUD 15th, 58th; CAZORLA 54th, 88th PEN. NEWCASTLE: PEREZ 63rd.

Arsenal put their recent Premier League troubles behind them, thanks to a brace apiece from Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla. Giroud headed the Gunners ahead, and Cazorla's cute finish made it 2-0. Giroud added his second with a clever close-range finish, and after Ayoze Perez gave Newcastle hope with a header, Cazorla completed an emphatic win with a penalty.

BURNLEY 1

SOUTHAMPTON 0

GOAL:- BURNLEY: BARNES 73rd.

Burnley moved out of the bottom three after an Ashley Barnes' winner against Southampton gave the Clarets a third league win of the season. The visitors had a chance to take the lead from the spot after George Boyd's trip on Ryan Bertrand, but Tom Heaton saved Dusan Tadic's penalty. The miss was punished when Barnes' shot deflected in off Toby Alderweireld.

CHELSEA 2 HULL CITY 0

GOALS:- CHELSEA: HAZARD 7th; COSTA 68th.

Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Barclays Premier League with a scrappy victory over 10-man Hull, which was marred by diving controversy. Eden Hazard scored a header early on, but the hosts only made sure of victory after Tom Huddlestone's 60th-minute red card for a challenge on Filipe Luis. Diego Costa eased Chelsea nerves, sweeping home from close range.

CRYSTAL PALACE 1

STOKE CITY 1

GOALS:- PALACE: McARTHUR 11th. STOKE: CROUCH 13th.

Peter Crouch scored Stoke City's equaliser on his 600th career appearance. James McArthur grabbed his first goal since joining Palace in September with a header that looped over Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. But Crouch equalised from close range just 92 seconds later when he latched on to a kind deflection.

LEICESTER CITY 0

MANCHESTER CITY 1

GOAL:- MANCHESTER CITY: LAMPARD 40th.

Frank Lampard scored his 175th Barclays Premier League goal as Manchester City triumphed 1-0 at bottom-of-the-table Leicester City. The ex-Chelsea man guided home Samir Nasri's pass to give City three points. However, Manuel Pellegrini's afternoon will have been darkened by injuries to Edin Dzeko and Vincent Kompany.

SUNDERLAND 1

WEST HAM UNITED 1

GOALS:- SUNDERLAND: GOMEZ 22nd PEN. WEST HAM: DOWNING 29th.

West Ham maintained their place in the Barclays Premier League's top four by coming from behind to draw at Sunderland. They trailed to Jordi Gomez' penalty, given when Sunderland's Adam Johnson fell under James Tomkins' challenge. That decision angered Hammers boss Sam Allardyce, but Stewart Downing levelled from 18 yards via a deflection.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION 1

ASTON VILLA 0

GOAL:-WBA: GARDNER 72nd.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Craig Gardner scored against former club Aston Villa to end the Baggies' run of five Premier League matches without a win. Gardner capitalised on a scramble inside the area and fired through a crowd of bodies after Stephane Sessegnon's shot had been blocked. Villa had earlier been reduced to 10 men after Kieran Richardson was sent off for a late tackle on Sessegnon.
