Champion jockey Dane Nelson has been slapped with a four-day suspension by the stewards for careless riding aboard FASTANDFLASHY in the seventh race at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, November 12.

The suspension begins tomorrow, but provisions have been made by the stewards to allow Nelson to ride on the big Boxing Day programme on Friday, December 26 before completing the remainder of his suspension on Saturday, December 27, January 1 and January 2, 2015.

At the December 9 hearing at the offices of the Jamaica Racing Commission, Nelson faced the stewards who confirmed that FASTANDFLASHY, after passing the post third to the 61-1 outsider DUTCHROW, had caused interference to CRY OF THE POOR early in the last furlong and disqualified his mount to fifth. CRY OF THE POOR was promoted to fourth.

Three-day suspension appeal

Significantly, the stewards had weeks earlier imposed a three-day suspension on Nelson for foul riding aboard PRNCESS SHEMEKA in the third race on October 29, his mount causing interference to the winning horse PLAY STATION. Nelson has appealed that decision. The appeal should have been heard on last Tuesday, but was postponed.

In another recent case, Nelson was fined $10,000 by the stewards for careless riding aboard CHEERS (second past the post) in the first race on November 15 after his mount caused interference to STOP A GAP in the straight.
