The Jamaica Skeet Federation will be looking to treat its members to a fun, exciting and charitable 'Xmas Hamper' competition today to reward members for their support throughout the year.

Today's event will be held at the Portmore Range in St Catherine. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and close at 10 a.m. This will be followed by a shotgun event at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free. Competition and title sponsors Caribbean Broilers (CB) Foods, will be awarding sectional prizes such as gift baskets, ham and other tokens.

Khaleel Azan, president of the Jamaica Skeet Club, expects members, participants and supporters to come out and have fun

"There is no entry fee. We just want members, their families, friends and supporters to come out and have a good time today," he said.

Giving back

"This event is about giving back to members who have patronised the club all year round," he continued.

He added that he expects top shooting, good camaraderie and exciting competition among the 80 shooters, some of whom will be off from high schools and colleges abroad.

"Today will be great," Azan underscored.

Today's competition will take on a similar format to golf, with the use of handicaps.

The classes of competition include: A class, which will see 0 handicaps used.

In the B class, five handicaps will be recognised, while among C class competitors, there will be 10 handicaps.

In the D and E classes, there will be 15 and 20 handicaps, respectively.

There will also be a special hunters class to accommodate rookie shooters, while women and girls will compete in a 40 handicaps section.

Today's competition will be looking to guarantee all shooters, irrespective of ranks, an equal chance to win overall championship spots in their handicaps.
