Reggae Boyz defender Demar Phillips is set to join Major League Soccer (MLS) side Real Salt Lake (RSL) on a free transfer according to

The 31-year-old Phillips, who plays left back, will end a five-year stint with Norwegian outfit Aalesunds FK, where he won the Norwegian Football Cup in 2009 and 2011. Before joining Aalesunds, Phillips spent a year and a half at Stoke City, where he made four appearances.

Phillips, who is a regular starter at Aalesunds, is leaving the club with his contract expiring at the end of the season. The St Thomas native has had a successful stint with Aalesunds, playing in 135 matches, scoring 17 goals and grabbing 20 assists along the way. The Tippeligaen, Norway's top division, plays a 30-game season, and Phillips appeared in between 15 and 25 matches each season for the club. He also played twice in the club's 2011-12 Europa League campaign.

Third Jamaican signed

Phillips last represented the Reggae Boyz in the Caribbean Cup Championships. He will be the third Jamaican player signed at the MLS outfit since former Reggae Boyz midfielder and RSL star Andy Williams took charge of the club's scouting efforts. In 2013, Lovel Palmer and Khari Stephenson joined the club but only remained for a single season.

Phillips, if he obtains the required visa, will join RSL as the second rostered left back following the departure of Chris Wingert, who was selected in the 2014 Expansion Draft. Abdoulie Mansally recently signed a new contract with the club.
