MEMBERS of Jamaica's historic gold medal-winning team at August's International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) World Cup in Montego Bay got surprise gifts on Wednesday from the sport's newest sponsor, Alliance Investments Limited.

Team members, led by captain Nicholas Dusard, Scott Wright, Ackeem Lawrence, Adrian Moore and Daron Harrison turned up at Alliance Investment's Belmont Road offices for what they thought would have been a photo opportunity in honour of their historic feat of winning Jamaica's first team-sparring gold medal at an ITF world event.

However, Peter Chin, president of Alliance Investments, presented members with brand new Samsung Galaxy s5 smartphones a day before Christmas, which had the members grinning from ear to ear and admiring their new devices.

Chin, whose Alliance Investments was among the sponsors at the ITF World Cup, held at Montego Bay's Convention Centre, said the team members were deserving of their surprise gifts.

"They performed at such a high level to win the gold medal. This is just a token of appreciation. A lot of sportsmen in smaller sports, especially, only get accolades. We thought it would have been a good gesture," said Chin.

Black belt team-sparring gold is one of the most coveted ITF titles. Jamaica had to battle past Canada and two Argentine teams to lift the title at home.
