Start with Superior Quality

Both the Pick-9 and Super-6s start anew at Caymanas Park tomorrow with guaranteed minimums of $1 million and $750,000 respectively.

We look at the first Super-6 which gets underway in race one with a three-year-old race over 1300 metres in which seven starters have been declared, four from the stables of veteran trainer Harry Parsard.

They include the American colt SUPERIOR QUALITY with stable jockey Omar Walker aboard and LONG RUNNING TRAIN with in-form Rayan Wilson in the saddle. These two along with Dane Nelson's mount TROJAN should ensure keen competition, but SUPERIOR QUALITY, as his name implies, strikes me as a better horse than his main rivals and thus gets the vote. The son of Dunkirk beat the subsequent winner SEEKING MY DREAMS by a short head on his over 1200 metres on December 14 and was second to the speedy POLLY B behind a fast-time over the straight on January 10.

Next on the programme is a $350,000-$300,000 claiming race in which PERSIAN BELLE with Shane Ellis riding for new trainer Neive Graham, recent winner JESSIE JAMES, EXCLUSIVE PRINCE and WATER WAVE should figure prominently in a 10-horse field.

The 5-y-o gelding failed by a neck to stave off out of class JACK DE CHARMER over 1200 metres on a $350,000 claiming tag December 27 and was claimed by Graham for O'Shaun Connection out of that race.

PERSIAN BELLE has looked well at exercise since, and given this milder pace, should go all the way and win at the expense of the stretch running JESSIE JAMES and WATER WAVE, now dropped in class.

EXPECTED TO REBOUND

Having failed by a short head to catch STRIKING DISTANCE over a mile on January 3, the Gary Subratie-trained BOLD AVITATOR (Aaron Chatrie up) is confidently expected to go one better in the third race over 1820 metres, his favourite trip, having won back-to-back races over same last April.

THE BEST FLYER caught the eye at exercise when galloping six furlongs in 1:15.3 last Saturday morning and looks best of a moderate lot under in-form jockey Jevanne Erwin in the fourth race over 1200 metres.

The last two races in the first Super-6 should be won by LIGHT BRIGADE (pick of the weights) under 4.0kg claiming apprentice Marc Griffiths and PRINCESS TABOKIE with Clive Lynch aboard in the sixth race over 1100 metres for maidens. Their respective dangers are MERU (down in class) and LA MADRINA.
