Barbican, Reno finish 2-2
Reno and Barbican played to an exciting 2-2 draw in a relegation battle in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) football match at Barbican Complex in St Andrew yesterday.
Barbican took the lead at home courtesy of captain Ramone 'Passa' McGregor in the 32nd minute. However, Reno fought back with goals by Kayce Bromfield (44th) and an own goal by Barbican's defender, Kemar Thomas (86th). Barbican rallied for a share of the points when Lennox Russell scored in the 90+4 minutes.
Both teams struggled on the playing field due to afternoon rains, and it was difficult for the players to move the ball around.
Barbican had the better chances in the first half, but Shaquille Lewis and Lennox Russell were guilty of misses.
Barbican's coach, Marvin Tate, was a bit disappointed that his team did not win the game.
"The conditions were more in favour of Reno. They were more adaptable. Our style of play was affected by the rains," Tate told The Gleaner.
"After going behind late in the game, we scored in the last minute to salvage a draw. It wasn't what we wanted," he shared.
On the other hand, coach of Reno Wendell Downswell said overall it was a good result.
"Overall, it wasn't a bad draw, as we fought back from 1-0 down and led, but gave up a goal in the final minute. We are disappointed but fairly satisfied with the performance," Downswell said.
Reno moved out of the relegation zone in the 12-team league and are now in 10th position on 21 points, while Barbican remained in last place on 20 points.
