AP Stoke City's Peter Crouch (centre) celebrates his goal with his teammates during their English Premier League football match at St James' Park, Newcastle, England, yesterday. The game ended 1-1.

ASTON VILLA 1 CHELSEA 2

GOALS:- VILLA: OKORE 28th. CHELSEA: HAZARD 8th;

IVANOVIC 66th.

Chelsea extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points, thanks to Branislav Ivanovic's winner. Villa, without a league goal since December, responded after falling behind to Eden Hazard's early goal, levelling through Jores Okore. But Ivanovic restored the Blues' advantage to secure JosÈ Mourinho's first win at Villa Park at the sixth attempt.

EVERTON 0 LIVERPOOL 0

Everton and Liverpool battled out a dull 224th Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. This was Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard's farewell to this Premier League fixture, but apart from one overhead kick that was deflected over the top, the 34-year-old - who had scored nine derby goals previously - struggled as much as anyone else in his 33rd derby to lift this game out of mediocrity.

LEICESTER CITY 0 CRYSTAL PALACE 1

GOAL:- PALACE: LEDLEY 55th.

Crystal Palace's revival in the Barclays Premier League under Alan Pardew continued against Leicester City as they secured victory, thanks to Joe Ledley's goal. Palace midfielder Ledley headed in from a corner early in the second half. The Eagles have now won three out of their last four league games since Pardew took over as manager.

MANCHESTER CITY 1

HULL CITY 1

GOALS:- MAN CITY: MILNER 90th. HULL: MEYLER 35th.

James Milner salvaged a point for Manchester City against Hull, but could not stop his side falling seven points behind Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea. The visitors took the lead when David Meyler slotted in after Gaston Ramirez's shot struck a post. The home side rallied after the break and Edin Dzeko's shot was palmed away by keeper Allan McGregor.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS 0

SOUTHAMPTON 1

GOAL:- SOUTHAMPTON: MANE 90th.

Sadio Mane's 93rd-minute winner moved Southampton up to third in the Barclays Premier League as managerless Queens Park Rangers (QPR) suffered a fifth straight defeat. The Senegal midfielder turned Nedum Onuoha to fire into the top corner. QPR, led by academy coach Chris Ramsey after manager Harry Redknapp resigned on Tuesday, remain in the bottom three.

SWANSEA CITY 1 SUNDERLAND 1

GOALS:- SWANSEA: KI 66th. SUNDERLAND: DEFOE 42nd.

Sunderland claimed a valuable point in their bid for Barclays Premier League survival as they held Swansea to a draw. The Swans dominated the first half, but their profligate finishing was punished as Jermain Defoe's low effort put Sunderland in front. Ki Sung-Yueng equalised with a diving header against his former club, but Swansea were frustrated as they sought a late winner.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 2

ARSENAL 1

GOALS:- TOTTENHAM: KANE: 56th, 86th. ARSENAL: OZIL 11th.

Harry Kane scored twice, including an 86th minute winner, to end Arsenal's winning streak. Kane converted Mousa Dembele's flick from a corner early in the second half. He then rose to head home to take Spurs above the Gunners in the Premier League table. Mesut Ozil had given Arsenal the lead with a close-range finish, but they sat back after and paid the price.
