Durban only

candidate for 2022 Commonwealth Games

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP):

The South African city of Durban was the only candidate left to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the first in Africa, after Edmonton withdrew its bid because of economic insecurity. Edmonton and Commonwealth Games Canada said on Tuesday they will instead focus on bidding for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Edmonton's decision left Durban, on South Africa's east coast, as the only option for 2022. The winning city will be formally announced in September.

World Cup ticket-scalping charges dropped

A Rio de Janeiro court has ruled there is insufficient evidence to prosecute a British man arrested on suspicion of ticket scalping at last year's World Cup in Brazil. In a statement released on Tuesday, the court said Raymond Whelan was free and said police erred in collecting evidence and worked "in haste".

Wade will not play in NBA All-Star game

Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade has withdrawn from the NBA All-Star Game to be as healthy as possible for the second half of the season. He has not played since straining his right hamstring on January 27, which wasn't long after he overcame an issue with his left hamstring. Wade has missed Miami's last six games and will remain inactive after the Heat closed their pre-All-Star schedule in Cleveland last night.
