World Championships 4x400 metres relay silver medallist Javon Francis opened his season in impressive style yesterday at the Camperdown Classic.

Francis clocked 46.29 seconds on the National Stadium track to top Delano Williams' 46.84 in the time final. Other notable performers were Warren Weir, who won his 400m heat in 47.33, and Glasgow Commonwealth Games 100 metres gold medallist Kemar Bailey-Cole, who won his heat in 48.84.

In the women's 400 metres, World and Olympics 100m silver medallist Kerron Stewart clocked 55.41 seconds to win her heat. The best overall women's time was, however, 54.63 by Ristananna Tracey.

The meet is the second leg of the Digicel Grand Prix series.
