Down on the south coast, fourth meets seventh in the Barclays Premier League as Southampton attempt to maintain their quest for a place in next season's Barclays Premier League.

The Saints have gone 187 minutes without conceding a goal and have lost just once - at home to Swansea - in their last nine games in the League. They remain strong defensively at home; in 13 home games they have conceded only eight goals, the second lowest total, after Chelsea (4) in the Premier League.

Liverpool have won six, drawn one and lost five of their 12 away games and a win at St Mary's would take the Reds to within one point of Southampton.

They won 3-0 there last season with goals from Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling and a last-minute Steven Gerrard penalty. That, though, was their first win there since January 2003. Overall, Liverpool have paid 15 visits to Southampton, winning six, losing six and drawing three.

Southampton are still without Ryan Bertrand, who completes a three-match ban following his red card in the defeat by Swansea. His replacement in defence, Matt Targett, undergoes a test on a head injury.
