All set for Sagicor Sigma Run
SAGICOR Group Jamaica says all is now set for the 17th staging of its charity 5K, Sigma Corporate Run, today through the streets of Kingston and St Andrew.
"The physical infrastructure and personnel are in place, the runners are ready, and all the excitement is building," a company release quotes Race Director Alfred 'Frano' Francis.
More than 2,000 volunteers are involved in the logistics of the run scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. on Knutsford Boulevard in New Kingston.
Walkers, joggers, competitive runners, and wheelchair-bound racers from over 200 companies are set to participate in the family event that is seeking to raise $25 million for Jamaica Kidney Kids Foundation and the Neo Natal Unit at Cornwall Regional Hospital.
Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run has become the largest 5k road race in the Caribbean and per capita in the world, with a mandate to raise funds for children services.
Here are a few things participants will need to remember.
Don't forget Your Bib!
Whether you're there to compete for a podium finish or sectional prize or if you just want to finish before your friend, the most important thing you need for the Sigma Run is your Run/Walk or Wheel Chair bib. The MyLaps chip-timing software, which is used in the running bibs, allows each runner, walker and wheelchair participant to get quick updates of their results and overall performance during each stage of the race.
Wear Comfortable Shoes!
The race is long, and the road surfaces are not all even, so comfortable shoes can go a far way in increasing your overall performance. Try to avoid shoes with hard soles and, as best as possible, try to avoid wearing a new shoe which has not already been 'broken in'. While trying to be trendy and sporting the latest in fashionable sporting apparel, remember, a comfortable shoe beats a stylish shoe.
Be On Time!
The Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run will kick off with a warm-up session at 6:45a.m. at Emancipation Park, New Kingston. Race start times are 7:27am, 7:30am and 7:45am for the wheelchair, run and walk events, respectively, from Knutsford Boulevard. Activities and entertainment follow in the Park.
