Netball Jamaica (NJ) Berger Paints Elite League is set to shoot off on Friday, March 13 at the Leila Robinson Courts. This will be preceded by the player-draft, which will be held next Wednesday.

Karen Anderson, general manager (NJ), told The Gleaner in an interview yesterday that Berger Paints will once again be the title sponsors of the competition. Anderson also said the association is still working to get more sponsors on board for Jamaica's top netball competition.

"We have received some sponsorship for some of the team uniforms, like we did last year," said Anderson.

"We'd like some more sponsors to come on board because we still have some way to go," she said, adding that they haven't got all the money to cover the tournament budget.

"There are some opportunities out there for sponsors to come on board and help us," Anderson said.

The six-team competition, which replaced the Berger Super League, featured the top 72 players in the island last year.

The participating teams are Kingston Humming Birds, St James Sharpes, Manchester Spurs, St Catherine Racers, St Ann Orchids and Clarendon Gaters. The Humming Birds won last year.

Matches will be played on a round-robin format, with the top four teams advancing to the semi-finals.

Anderson stated that the league will also serve to provide the Sunshine Girls with invaluable practice ahead of this year's World Netball Championships, which will be held in August.

"It will really hone the Sunshine Girls with some good competition going into the World Championships," she said.
