Start with Buzz Nightmare
The mushrooming Pick-9 offers an $8.4 million carryover at Caymanas Park today and this being the case, the activity associated with his popular exotic bet could reach fever pitch.
Meanwhile, both Super-6s start anew with the guaranteed minimum of $750,000. The Pick-9 will be conducted from the second to the 10th race, the first Super-6 from race one to six, the late Super-6 from race five to 10.
We look at the first Super-6 which gets underway with a 3-y-o maiden condition race over 1100 metres, to be contested by nine starters, including the well-forward debutant BUZZ NIGHTMARE, who by virtue of his glowing exercise reports, should turn it into a procession with veteran jockey Ian Spence riding for 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny and owners 2 Penyu.
The bay colt by Into Mischief out of Exotic Cat has been working well for some time, galloping five furlongs in a brisk 1:00.1 on February 18. He looks a cut above main rivals POWER OF THE CAT and SAMORA and should be used as a banker.
The Pick-9 gets underway in race two, a restricted allowance race over 1100 metres for four-year-olds and up, in which eight starters have been declared. Here again we have another banker in the Wayne DaCosta-trained MAKE MY DAY (Robert Halledeen) who made a winning debut over the straight in maiden company on January 31. Owned by Winston Kong, the four-year-old bay colt by He'stherealthing out of Ahwhofah won by 3-3/4 lengths from RUNNER RUNNER in the fairly good time of 59.0 and reporting even better for this race, should repeat at the expense of UNCLE CHUBBY in a field of eight.
The third race over 1200 metres for $250,000 - $210,000 claimers should resolve itself into a straight fight between the recent winners PERSIAN BELLE (Shane Ellis up) and ETERNAL JOY with in-form Aaron Chatrie. Both are coming off facile victories and while ETERNAL JOY has greater speed and should set off in front, I fear she will be caught by the down in class PERSIAN BELLE from the Anthony 'Baba' Nunes stables in a field of seven.
The speedy TOOTING KAT was a beaten favourite behind AWESOME CODE over 1300 metres recently and the pair renew rivalry in the fourth race over the straight.
The result should be different tomorrow. TOOTING KAT is extremely fast and having shown a particular liking for the straight, should win from JACK DE CHARMER, who was soundly beaten by DEO VOLENTE on a $525,000 tag on Wednesday and the well-trained DIFFERENTGENERATION (working well) with Halledeen up.
The last two races in the first Super-6 should be won by classic aspirant SEEKING MY DREAMS (Shane Ellis up), who beat all barring stable-companion ALI BABA over 1500 metres behind a fast time recently, and stable-companion GRANVILLE GRETAto upstage the well forward debutant WINGS OF HOPE (working well) with Walker up in division one of the three-year-old maiden race over 1200 metres confined to fillies.
