DaCosta, Walker top them
Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta and four-time champion jockey Omar Walker have emerged winners of the newly introduced 'Performer of the Month' competition, thanks to two winners each at Caymanas Park last Saturday, the final race meet in February.
DaCosta, who is bidding for a record 15th trainers' championship this season, won with MAKE MY DAY and SEEKING MY DREAMS to tally eight winners during the month, one ahead of Richard Azan who was winless on the afternoon after starting the day one ahead of DaCosta. Azan finished clear of Fitzroy Glispie and Gary Subratie in the tables.
DaCosta thus secured the $30,000 monthly incentive from CTL and assorted sponsors. Walker, on the other hand, rode two winners in the stable-companions BOY WONDER and WINGS OF HOPE to finish on 10 wins, one ahead of the trio of leading jockey Robert Halledeen, Dane Nelson and Aaron Chatrie.
Walker won the $20,000 incentive in the jockeys' category, while Elite Bloodstock Limited with five wins topped the owners' category and has secured 20 bags of feed.
Meanwhile, Wayne Malcolm, who is attached to the stables of Richard Azan, won the $10,000 monthly incentive for grooms with three winners - PUDDY POOH, KRONUS and ISRAELITE.
The overall winners in each category at the end of 2015 will receive $250,000, $150,000, $100,000 and $50,000 to the owner, trainer, jockey and groom, respectively.
