BADMINTON: Jamaica International championships on today

The Jamaica International Badminton Championships serves off this afternoon at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium, at the University of Technology (UTech).

The championships begin at 4:30, with a short opening ceremony.

The Jamaica International Badminton Championships is one of the Pan American Circuit Tournaments that are held throughout the Americas.

The purpose of these tournaments is to allow players within the region to better able qualify for the Olympics without having to travel outside of the region to Europe and Asia, which is costly.

There will be five categories that players will take part in, these categories include: the Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

A total of 15 countries are set to take part in the tournament which includes hosts Jamaica, the United States, Guatemala, Canada, Turkey, Congo and Barbados just to name a few.

The number one seed from the United States, Howard Sui is expected to compete, while the number two seed from Guatemala, Kevin Cordon, is also expected to provide good competition.
