Following its high-powered sponsorship of the Superstakes last November, Post to Post Betting will once again partner with Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) as title sponsor of the 41st running of the 1000 and 2000 Guineas, both over a mile, at Caymanas Park on Saturday, April 4 and Easter Monday, April 6.

Plans for the season's first classics were outlined by representatives of Post to Post and CTL at yesterday's press launch on the front lawns of Caymanas Park.

According to CTL's chief executive officer, Cedric Stewart, both races, confined to native bred three-year-olds, offer purses of $3.25 million and will signal the start of the Triple Crown Series, with Post to Post contributing $1 million to the purse of each race.

"The two days will consist of live music from the likes of dancehall sensation Ding Dong and International reggae artiste Freddie McGregor, along with special giveaways from our sponsors and promoters," said Stewart.

"CTL would once again like to thank our title sponsor Post to Post Betting company for coming on board for this celebrated event and making the big weekend a most memorable and exciting one," he added.

Extremely competitive

Denzil Miller Jr, CTL's

racing secretary, said both classics would be "extremely competitive".

"The 1000 Guineas will

feature the champion two-year-old filly of last year, the Anthony Nunes-trained COME DANCE WITH ME, stable-companion BERRANCA, a recent winner of the Thornbird Stakes and the highly regarded PADDY POOH from the stables of Richard Azan Azan, as top contenders.

"But it's the 2000 Guineas that's the big one, featuring the likes of last season's champion two-year-old ALACRANN from the Nunes stables, his stable-companion SIEMPRE BUENO, as well as the Wayne DaCosta-trained ALI BABA, who is unbeaten in three races this season, stable-companions POLLY B, SEEKING MY DREAM and POKER STAR, who recently won the Sir Howard Stakes" Miller pointed out TURN ME LOOSE and BUZZ NIGHTMARE.

"This promises to be a humdinger," said Miller, who was quick to add that many-time Canadian champion jockey, Patrick Husbands from Barbados, will ride in the Guineas on both days and has decided to donate 20 per cent of his earnings to the Jockeys' School.

Nunes confirmed that Husbands will ride either ante-post favourite ALACRANN or SIEMPRE BUENO in the 2000 Guineas and the speedy filly DANCE WITH ME in the 1000 Guineas. One of Florida's top jockeys, Emmanuel Cruz, will ride POKER STAR for DaCosta in the 2000 Guineas.

Also speaking were Mikey Bell, sports manager Post To Post and Andrew Azar, deputy chairman of CTL. Among those present were Amber Stewart, chairman of Post to Post betting, Petiteen Cheeks, financial controller and the newly-appointed CEO of Post to Post, Sandra Donaldson.
