Fiona Richards of Buff Bay High prepares to launch the shot put during the girls' Class Two final at the GraceKennedy/ISSA Boys and Girls' Athletic Champio ships at the National Stadium yesterday. Ricrahds won with a throw of 15.21 metres.

If any doubted defending champions Edwin Allen High School's credentials, a new meet record served up an answer in the Class Four girl's 4x100 metres relay with a jaw-dropping 46.90 seconds, which dispatched last year's 47.28 set by St Jago High.

The record fell on day two of the ISSA-GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championship (Champs) inside the National Stadium yesterday.

The record breakers, Edwin Allen, ended the day early second on 11 points, five behind Hydel High, which tallied 16 after two finals. Excelsior High (10), were third, followed by Vere Technical (four), Ardenne High (two) and St Hugh's High (one).

Yesterday's finals saw Hydel's Shadae Lawrence taking the girls' Class One discus with a throw of 48.66 metres, while Fiona Richards of Buff Bay High School heaved 15.21m for victory in the girls' Class Two shot put. Silver went to Devia Brown of Hydel, while bronze went to Sahjay Stevens of St Elizabeth Technical High School.

In the girls' 200 metres Class Three, Kimone Shaw of St Jago High led the qualifiers with 24.60 seconds.
