Jamaica’s Jermaine Bowen scored a unanimous victory against debutant Duke Brooks from Trinidad and Tobago, last night, in the Wray and Nephew Middleweight Contender Boxing series.

The match was held at the Chinese Benevolent Association Auditorium, on Old Hope Road.

After a very tentative start by both boxers in the first and second rounds, Bowen picked up the pace to dominate his Trinidadian opponent in the last four rounds.

He used his jabs to good effect, along with some solid blows to Brooks.

Brooks was knocked down three times by Bowen, but managed to avoid a knockout and eventually lost in the six allotted rounds.

Bowen is now through to the Quarter-final round of the competition.

The contender boxing series continues next Wednesday with a fight which will see Jamaica’s Tsetsi Davis in action.
