Christian Benteke scored twice as relegation-threatened Aston Villa moved up to 14th in the Barclays Premier League. Benteke headed in from Fabian Delph's cross before scoring a second from Jack Grealish's corner. Romelu Lukaku pulled a goal back but Tom Cleverley claimed Villa's third. Phil Jagielka set up a tense finish when he headed in.

LEICESTER CITY 3

NEWCASTLE UNITED 0

GOALS:-LEICESTER: ULLOA 1, 48 PEN;

MORGAN 17.

Newcastle's troubles continued with an eighth straight defeat - their worst run since 1977 - while manager John Carver accused defender Mike Williamson of deliberately

getting sent off. Leicester increased their hopes of

surviving with two goals from Leonardo Ulloa and another from Wes Morgan. Williamson's red card, for two yellows, infuriated Carver, while Leicester had Daryl Janmaat dismissed.

LIVERPOOL 2

QUEENS PARK RANGERS 1

GOALS:-LIVERPOOL: COUTINHO 19; GERRARD 87. RANGERS: FER 73.

QPR's latest defeat was overshadowed by news that the wife of Rangers defender Rio Ferdinand had passed away after a short illness LAST Friday. Both sides wore black armbands as Rangers moved to within one game of relegation. Philippe Coutinho gave Liverpool the lead and after Leroy Fer replied for Rangers, Steve Gerrard scored the

winner.

MANCHESTER UNITED 0

WEST BROMWICH ALBION 1

GOAL:-WBA: OLSSON 63.

Manchester United suffered a third consecutive defeat as West Bromwich moved a step closer to Barclays Premier League safety. United went behind midway through the second half when Chris Brunt's free kick deflected in off teammate Jonas Olsson. West Brom's Boaz Myhill saved Robin van Persie's penalty after Saido Berahino's handball in the area.

SUNDERLAND 2

SOUTHAMPTON 1

GOALS:-SUNDERLAND: GOMEZ 21 PEN, 55 PEN. SOUTHAMPTON: MANE 22.

Sunderland remain a point adrift of safety after beating 10-man Southampton, thanks to two Jordi Gomez penalties. Gomez put the Black Cats ahead with his first spot-kick after JosÈ Fonte caught Billy Jones with a high boot. Sadio Mane levelled just 73 seconds later. But Gomez secured a vital victory, firing home after James Ward-Prowse was sent off for fouling Jermain Defoe.

SWANSEA CITY 2

STOKE CITY 0

GOALS:-SWANSEA:

MONTERO 76; KI 90.

Jefferson Montero's first Swansea City goal helped secure a hard-earned win against 10-man Stoke City. With 15 minutes left, Montero dived to head in Jonjo Shelvey's cross. Stoke's Marc Wilson was sent off late on as he received a second yellow card for bringing down Montero, before Ki

Sung-Yueng scored Swansea's second.

WEST HAM UNITED 1

BURNLEY 0

GOAL:-WEST HAM: NOBLE 24 PEN

Burnley will be relegated if they fail to beat Hull City next week after losing at West Ham. Michael Duff was controversially sent off for tripping Cheikhou Kouyate in the box, allowing Mark Noble to score from the spot. Burnley's Tom Heaton kept out Enner Valencia with a save, but Sean Dyche's side could only muster half-chances in response.
