All set for Lotto Classic
The 75th running of the Lotto Classic for the Governor's Cup will be run over 2000 metres at Caymanas Park on Saturday, May 23, and 14-time sponsors Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) has gone the extra mile to make it an unforgettable experience.
Plans for the meet were outlined by representatives of SVL and Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) at yesterday's launch at the Spanish Court Hotel, New Kingston.
CTL's racing secretary Denzil Miller Jr expects a very competitive race.
The nominees for the race include 2000 Guineas runner-up SEEKING MY DREAM and POKER STAR, both from the stables of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, along with SIEMPRE BUENO, BERRANCA and the unbeaten colt SOUTHERN CRUISE, all conditioned by Anthony Nunes.
Describing the $3 million race as a "must-see event", Miller said Lotto Classic Day marks the first of four major, sponsored racedays on the calendar, which continue with the valuable two-year-old triple-crown series which begins in October with the $2.65 Cash Pot Only One For Me Trophy over 1200 metres and climaxes on Boxing day with the $.25 million Jamaica 2-Y-O Stakes over a mile.
In addition to the Lotto Classic for which SVL has contributed $1 million to the $3 million purse, the gaming company will also sponsor the 19th running of the $1.5 million Lotto Sprint Trophy (grade one) over 1100 metres as well as the Lotto Juvenile Stakes over 600 metres straight for maiden two-year-olds with a purse of $1 million, and the Lotto Championship Trophy over 1300 metres for $180,000 claimers with a purse of $538,000.
Sonia Davidson, SVL's group corporate communications vice president, said her company will host 1,200 Lottery and JustBet agents and their guests under an infield tent at the track for the first time in five years. She urged turfites to wear the Supreme Ventures colours, pink and blue to the races.
