Nicholas 'The Axeman' Walters will defend his World Boxing Association Featherweight Supertitle on Saturday, June 13, in the Madison Square Garden Theatre, New York, USA, against Colombian Miguel 'The Scorpion' Massiaga. This will be the main bout on a card that will be broadcast on HBO television. The co-feature bout will be between Puerto Rican Felix 'El Diamant' Verde and Ivan Najera from Texas.

It should be quite a fight and a 'Shootout in New York' is expected. Both boxers are unbeaten as professionals and have outstanding records. The champion is 25-0 with 21 knockouts to his credit, while the challenger is 20-0 with 18 knockouts. Massiaga, therefore, has a 90 per cent knockout record, which is a shade better than Walters' 84 per cent knockout record.

Walters is riding a five-fight knockout streak, with former Superchampion Nonito Donaire as his latest victim. He met Donaire in California on October 18, last year, and won by tko in round six. Donaire was simply outclassed, and was put on the canvas in rounds three and six.

Massiaga is no slouch, however, and will be coming into the ring with blazing fists and riding a four-fight knockout accomplishment. The last time a fight went the distance for him was on August 17, 2013, when he scored a unanimous decision over Jesus Galicia, in their World Boxing Council Americas featherweight title.

There is an interesting sidelight to the fight, as Marriaga defeated Walters as an amateur 14-9 in an Olympic qualifying bout in Guatemala, in April, 2008. Walters said that he does not remember the fight, "but it really does not matter. Those days, we were fighting for medals and trophies, but today, this is big business. He wants my title, and my job is to prevent him from taking it. It is my aim to accomplish that in fine style."
