The inaugural Sandals Select Chairman's Invitational Spring Golf Tournament tees off at the Sandals Golf and Country Club today 8:30 a.m.
The two-day tournament is an exclusive event for Sandals Select guests, repeat visitors to a Sandals or Beaches resort.
The scramble-format tournament has attracted considerable
interest and according to Tony Ebanks, general manager, Sandals Golf and Country Club, interest has been extremely high.
"This is the first time we will be staging the event and we expect a great tournament. Already, the participants have been practising on the course, and they are all looking to post good scores," Ebanks noted.
The event will culminate with a gala awards dinner and presentation in the ballroom at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort on Saturday night.
Scare for Djokovic
Top-ranked Novak Djokovic fought back from a set down to pull out a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 win over Brazilian qualifier Thomaz Bellucci to reach the Italian Open quarter-finals yesterday.
The 68th-ranked Bellucci gave Djokovic trouble with his powerful serving and groundstrokes and also exhibited extraordinary foot speed early on.
After Bellucci broke to take a 6-5 lead in the opening set, Djokovic put on a new pair of sneakers during the changeover - a sign he wasn't comfortable.
Djokovic broke early in the second set and got the decisive break late in the third, extending his winning streak to 18 matches.
He will next face fifth-seeded Kei Nishikori, who beat Viktor Troicki of Serbia 6-4, 6-3.
