St Andrew will enter today's second and final day of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) Sagicor National Athletics Championships as overall leaders on 69 points after eight finals.

Portland on 38, Kingston 29.5, Clarendon 29 and defending champions St Catherine 24 round out the top five.

The Marlene Smith-coached St Andrew team has already secured 37 points after four finals in the female section, to lead Portland (25), Clarendon (18), Kingston (15.5) and St Thomas (12).

In the boys' section, St Andrew also dominated the early action, finishing the day on 32 points, 10 more than Manchester (22) in second. St. Catherine (14) and Kingston (14) were inseparable for third, with Portland on 13 and Clarendon, 11.

St Andrew's charge was headed by strong performances in the field events. Anna-Kay Emanuel won the girls' shot put open with a record throw of 10.83m. Her mark erased the 10.73m set by Qute-Ann Robb in 2013.

Action begins today at 10:30 a.m. with the 1500 metres open for girls and ends at 3:50 p.m. with the boys' medley open.
