Obstacles get in the way for Andrew Riley
The 2014 Commonwealth 110m hurdles champion, Andrew Riley, could only manage eighth place in Shanghai, today.
Riley, who claimed gold in Glasgow, Scotland last year, was always going to be under pressure as he was in a stellar field which included Olympic champion and world record-holder, Aries Merritt, Olympic silver medallist, Jason Richardson, and 2013 world champion, America's David Oliver.
One of the closest contests of the night saw a photo finish with Oliver winning with a time of 13.17 seconds to beat the Cuban, Orlando Ortega, by 200th of a second. Merritt clocked 13.25 and landed third.
Riley, 26, got a clean enough start but struggled to keep up with the quality field and lost rhythm as he hit the last the last three hurdles to eventually record 13.71.
