Shanghai, China:

Jamaican Discus thrower Jason Morgan failed to recapture his form, which saw him earn a bronze medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, at today’s Diamond League meeting in Shanghai.

The three times national champion finished in 5th place with a throw of 62.26m.

This was the second leg of the prestigious invitational series, following on from Doha on Friday night.

While Morgan disappointed, the event was won by Polish athlete Piotr Malachowski, with a throw of 64.65m, who  beat compatriot Rober Urbanek on his final throw.

Malachowski, a two time world silver medallist,  managed to steal the competition on his last throw and collect all four Diamond League points.

Morgan, 32, opened up with a 59.01m throw which is some distance below his personal best of 67.15m, which he achieved back in 2012. Edging close to his season’s best throw of 63.52m he could only manage a succession of 61m throws.

If Morgan wants to compete with the best at the World Championships in Beijing this summer, he’s going t have to throw close to his best if he wants to medal.
