Shanghai Diamond League: 'I am very happy', says Spencer after 400m hurdles win

Shanghai, China:

 Kaliese Spencer lit up the women’s 400m hurdles at the Diamond League in Shanghai.

The Commonwealth Games 2014 champion began her season with began her season with a season's best time of 54.71 to ward off competition from America’s Tiffany Williams, who came second in a season’s best of 55.27.

Williams went off like a train but Spencer kept her nerve and reeled in her opponent on the home straight, with Spencer edging away over the final two hurdles to earn maximum Diamond League points.

Spencer, who turned 28 just over a week ago, had a good start out of the blocks and maintained a decent rhythm throughout.

Her experience and power saw her stave off Williams.

Of her race Spencer said: "I am very happy with my first place, I am happy with the world lead. I really believe that I can win in Beijing. Now I have to try harder, stay focused and injury free.”
