Following Arsenal's midweek draw against Sunderland, Manchester City are guaranteed runners-up spot, a year after winning the Barclays Premier League. Their position has been helped by an impressive finish to the season, with wins in their last five games; a sixth straight victory would be their best run since November and December when they won seven in a row.

During that previous sequence City beat South-ampton 3-0 at St Mary's Stadium despite losing Eliaguim Mangala to a red card when leading 1-0. And City have won their last three home league games against the Saints, though the south-coast club did win in its previous three visits.

With one game on this season remaining, City have 10 points fewer than over the whole of last season while scoring 81 goals compared to 102 a year ago.

Southampton, meanwhile, ended a run of four games without a win by smashing Aston Villa 6-1 last weekend at St Mary's Stadium.
