Facey, young Newnham on top

Hoerman Cup representatives Ian Facey and Jonathan Newnham were tied on 74

after yesterday's opening day of the Seafreight National Amateur Golf Championships at Caymanas Golf and Country Club.

O'Shae Haye and Sean Morris are tied on second with 75. Wayne Chai Chong, Sean Green and Paul Seaton are next in third with 76 each. Last year's champion, Dr. Mark Newnham, finished the day on a 79.

In the 7-11 category, George Hugh is ahead with 78 stokes followed by Dr Carl Bruce on 80.

Clifton Johnson is leading the Men's 12-17 group and Eric Gagnon finished the day in second position.

Jamaica Golf Association president, Peter Chin, shot 77 which put him at the front of the Super Senior group. Michael Boyd and Michael Dunbar are second with 78. Gordon Hutchinson finished the day with 79. Carlysle Hudson is leading the 13-18 category and Bert Tomlinson is in second with John Hayletts, third.

Tiana Cruz leads the charge in the ladies section with 76, earning three birdies along the way. Second is Kei Harris with 79 and Michele Gabay is in third.

In the ladies 13-24 category, Murine Blake leads with 97, followed by Diane Hudson and Valerie Grant. The four-day championship continues today at 7:30 a.m.
