Four punters corner Pick-9
The $18.8 million Pick-9 which eluded punters for 10 consecutive racedays was cornered by four punters at Caymanas Park yesterday, each receiving a cool $4.7 million.
Driven by an attractive carryover of $14.7 million from Saturday, Pick-9 activity reached fever pitch prior to the 1 p.m. post time with wagering topping the $7 million mark.
Despite two mild upsets by 7-1 shots, SUB STRUCTURE and LASHING FORCE in the third and eighth races respectively, victories by odds-on favourites PRINCESS TABOKIE at 4-5 in the first of the Pick-9 races, BALA BAD GAL LINKS at 4-5 in the sixth and WILLIE GOLDSMITH at 3-5 in the ninth, as well as SECRETENA at 8-5 in the fourth, ensured there would be no further carry-over.
Another popular winner on the card was the Lawrence Freemantle-trained MILITARY MOVE, who romped the overnight allowance mile as the 6-5 second favourite.
Ridden by Shane Ellis in a field of seven, the consistent six-year-old gelding chased long-time leader and 4-5 favourite HOLOGRAM SHADOW as a team with ZACKONTHEATTACK (17-1), before mounting his challenge on entering the straight.
MILITARY MOVE quickly disposed of the apprentice-ridden HOLOGRAM SHADOW and pulled away to win by five lengths in the good time of 1:38.3.
Apprentice Shamaree Muir highlighted the 10-race programme with three winners in SUB STRUCTIRE, BALA BAD GIRL LINKS and LASHING FORCE.
