Newnham still in front
Jonathan Newnham is still on top at the National Golf Trials being held at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course in Montego Bay.
Newnham shot a 70 yesterday, following Thursday's impressive 65, for a two-day total of 135. Eleven shots behind is William Knibbs with a combined score (71, 75) of 146. Montego Bay-based Sean Morris is two shots behind with (72, 76) 148. Owen Samuda (151) is fourth. Ian Facey, Zandre Roye and Keith Stein are locked in a three-way tie for fifth.
Greg Chong retained the lead in the Senior category, shooting 81, for a combined score of 157. Robert Chin held on for second place adding one shot to Thursday's total to finish with 80. His overall total of 159, puts him two shots off the leader's pace. Radcliff Knibbs is one stroke behind on 160, having shot 80 on both days. Rory Jardine and Paul Seaton are tied in fourth with 165.
Peter Chin maintained his lead in the Super Seniors group by shooting 79 for a total of 154. Easton Williams, Dennis Atkinson and Opeton Marshall - all previous national representatives - are locked in second position on 165, eleven strokes behind Chin. Gordon Hutchinson is fifth.
The tide turned in the ladies' group with Canadian-based Mandy Piccininni taking the lead with a one over par 73 for a total of 150. Piccininni moved up from third place. Jodi Barrow now lies second with (76, 77) 153 and Tiana Cruz is third with 155. On her heels is Kei Harris with 156, after shooting 74.
The third day of the competition will tee off at 7:30 a.m.
