Former champions Portmore United have moved a step closer to returning to top flight football next season.

This after edging York United 1-0 in their Jamaica Football Federation Confederation play-off game yesterday.

Hughan Grandison scored the lone goal for Portmore United in the 56th minute.

With three rounds of matches to go, Portmore United lead the standings with seven points.

They are followed by UWI and York United who are both on four points each.

Savannah is at the bottom of the standings on one point.

The top two teams will qualify for the Premier League competition at the end of the round.

In the day's other game, University of the West Indies (UWI) thrashed Savannah six-nil at the Mona Bowl.

Akeem Thenstead and Rochane Smith both netted two goals each to help the UWI to victory.
