West Indies will need to score another 376 runs with eight wickets remaining if they are to win the second Test against Australia at Sabina Park, and draw the two-match series.
This is after the regional men closed day three on 16 for two in their second innings, chasing 392 for victory.
They will resume tomorrow with Darren Bravo on eight, and Shane Dowrich, one.
Australia declared their second innings at 212 for two, 40 minutes before end of play.
West Indies, who resumed on 143 for eight earlier in the day, made 220, 179 runs short of their target.
All-rounder Jason Holder topscored with 82 against pacer Josh Hazlewood, five for 38.
