National Stadium tops Stowers' list
The National Stadium in Kingston is the best athletics venue.
That's the view of American hurdler Jasmin Stowers as expressed in a recent interview. Stowers, who won the 100 metres hurdles at the Jamaica Invitational in May, described the 53-year-old National Stadium as "a really nice stadium with a great atmosphere".
The 23-year-old American is enjoying her first full season as a professional athlete. So far this season, she has run in Des Moines in Iowa and Kingston and Diamond League meets in Doha, Rome, Birmingham, and Oslo. Yet the fans at the Jamaica Invitational made a huge impact on her.
"The crowd had bells that they were ringing and they were waving flags," she recalled.
"You could tell track meant a lot to them," she said in an interview appearing on the IAAF website, www.iaaf.org.
The emerging star delighted the Kingston audience with a world-leading time of 12.39 seconds.
"It meant a lot to me that they really appreciated my running, and I would like
to visit there again," she
She ran even faster - 12.35 - in Doha.
The Stowers interview is one in a series that appears under the banner 'Personal Bests'.
